What makes them healthier? Well, my understanding of health food has changed over the years. I used to be of the mindset that healthy meant low-fat, but it turns out that fat is not the problem. Processed foods and artificial preservatives are. I am now of the mindset that if you can’t pronounce an ingredient, then you probably shouldn’t be eating it. That’s why all of the recipes on my blog are from scratch and preservative-free. (Sorry if you were hoping for shortcut recipes featuring boxes cake mix! You won’t find them here).
But processed foods and artificial preservatives aren’t the only devils hiding in our pantry. Another major health disaster is sugar. That’s why I try to use as little refined sugar as much as possible. So you’ll see a lot of recipes with natural sweeteners on the site; things like coconut sugar, maple syrup, and honey. But the reality is that sometimes, you’ve just gotta use regular sugar to get the desired result.
Oh yeah, and I also love to play around with different flours so you’ll also find recipes that are paleo, grain-free, and gluten-free.
Because I am a big believer that you should be able to eat the things you love and that it’s possible to keep delicious food simple and natural. Enjoy!
