Why did I start my own stock photo service? Well, the short answer is that “necessity is the mother of invention,” but here’s the full story…
It all started when I began my blog. Everything I read from Building A Framework to How To Blog For Profit: Without Selling Your Soul talked about the importance of having beautiful, pinnable images for Pinterest.
There was just one problem. I am a terrible photographer. I come from a long line of terrible photographers (and videographers). In fact, my family is so bad at capturing images that I have to mention the time my family went on vacation to San Antonio, TX. I was fifteen. My dad decided that we were going to hike up a mountain, film the scenic overlook at the top, and then hike back down. There was only one problem. My dad had the “on/off” switch confused, so he actually had the camera off while he was “filming” the overlook. And instead, he captured 20 minutes of footage of himself holding a Diet Coke can, climbing to the top of the mountain. So uh, yeah. It’s that bad.
But I digress… All that is to say that I did what anybody in my position would do. I started to look for stock photos. I went to all the usual spots; Unsplash, Pixabay, Pexels, etc. The only problem was that it was hard for me to find pictures that I could use as a mom blogger. Every time I searched for “baby” or “parent,” I found lots of pictures of pregnant bellies and baby feet. Don’t get me wrong; they were nice photos, but I can’t have 87 different pictures of baby feet on my Pinterest boards. You know what I mean? Besides, I really wanted pretty, feminine-styled stock photos. You know the ones… they are so bright and airy and usually involve a laptop or a latte. I wanted those same type photos but for my niche.
I couldn’t find them, and that’s when I reached out to my friend, Jesse. He’s been a photographer for New York Fashion Week for years, and he really knows what he is doing. So I asked him if he would help me create the type of stock photos I was craving, and he agreed! Soon, however, I had a thought: I could either create the photos I desired, keep them all to myself, and have beautiful pins. Or, I could share them with others and make Pinterest a much more beautiful place for everyone. Not to mention, make the job of mom blogger so much easier. I chose the latter.
And that’s how Simply Mama Stock Photos was born. Jesse and I are so excited to be sharing this with you! We’ve done a couple of things to make our photos interesting, exclusive, and accessible:
- For starters, we are not a styled stock library where you gain access to a website and then can download photos. Rather, we send them right to your inbox!
- Each month we produce a new packet of high resolution, social media photos. You have access to the current packet of photos until the next packet is released. It is important that you download your .zip file and save your packet, or it will be gone for forever. In other words, if you join 3 months from now, you don’t get access to the photos from the prior months. This keeps our photos exclusive, and your social media images not looking like everyone else’s.
- We offer a variety of payment options, and you cancel at any time. So you can join, try it for a month, and see if it is right for you. We also offer 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions that you pay upfront, and the longer the length of your subscription, the more you save. Hooray!
And so there you have it, why I created my own stock photo service, specifically for mom bloggers. You can take a look at our website and give us a try. You can even download some free stockphotos!
