At some point in middle school, I discovered makeup. I quickly became obsessed (I have a tendency to get really into things), and the next thing you know I was an expert in makeup. I could tell you all of the shade names in the newest MAC launch. Or explain the differences in various eyeshadow finishes. Now, there was no such thing as YouTube tutorials back then, but there was Kevyn Aucoin’s Making Faces and Bobbi Brown’s Beauty, and I began to study those books religiously. And for as much as I knew about makeup, I also began to collect makeup too. It quickly became that there was no such thing as too many lipsticks or too many nail polishes. I had embarked on a never-ending quest to attain the unattainable: to be indisputably beautiful.
At some point, some seventeen years later, I realized that while it was okay to enjoy makeup, it was not the be-all-end-all that I had thought it would be. There was no magical foundation out there that would make me look like Christy Turlington. And no amount of lipsticks was going to turn me into the next Kate Upton. I was going to have to learn to accept the way that I looked.
I also realized that while makeup may help me feel good about myself, and skincare may delay the aging process, there was only one thing that I could do that would make me beautiful beyond my wildest dreams. That was to work on my inner beauty. If I took all the time I was spending studying makeup and refocused it on becoming a better person, then I would truly be beautiful.
As a mom, when I look at my daughter, I see someone who is beautiful. And it is my hope that she will spend her whole lifetime becoming even more beautiful by always working on her inner beauty. My greatest wish is that she becoming the person that God intended her to be, showing love to everyone she meets.
That’s why I made the following three free printables. They would make great framed art pieces, and each one features a quote about Audrey Hepburn reminding us to focus on inner beauty.
